That is fourteen matches in thirty days, seven of them conference, including Wethersfield at home on September 21 and Knoxville at home to close the month.
For a squad of this size, September will decide the season one way or the other.
The roster
Six seniors: Kaylyn Gale, Isabelle Wigant, Charley Chamberlain, Sage Kaiser, Caylee Elgin and Amber Plummer.
Positions are not listed on any public roster we can find, and no player statistics have been entered for 2026. Brynn Schipper assists Heather Anderson.
2025
6-22 overall, 1-10 in conference, eleventh of twelve. The season ended on October 28, losing to St. Bede 25-6, 25-13.
Galva has finished in the bottom two of the Lincoln Trail in each of the last two seasons.
A town named after a city in Sweden
Galva was founded in 1854 by Swedish immigrants from nearby Bishop Hill, and named for Gävle — still its sister city. Roughly 80 percent of residents claim Scandinavian ancestry.
Population 2,470, with an IHSA enrollment of 138. Three railway lines once served the town; the California Zephyr and Southwest Chief still pass through without stopping.
The school’s real trophies are in dance
Galva has no IHSA team state championship in any sport. Its two individual state champions are Ryan Preston in the 110-metre high hurdles in 1993 and Peyton Sopiars in the Class 1A triple jump in 2018.
But the dance and drill team won five state Production titles under the Illinois Drill Team Association — in 1999, 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2008 — plus a Musical Theatre title in 2010.
That is the most decorated programme in the building, by a distance.
Founding member
Galva is one of the eight original members of the Lincoln Trail Conference, founded in 1976 alongside Alexis, AlWood, Cambridge, ROVA, Toulon-LaFayette, Wethersfield and Winola.
Of those eight, Galva and Wethersfield are the only two still competing under the same name. Everything else has merged into something else.

Forty-three seasons, no championship
We are going to report Galva’s history straight, because the alternative is to write around it, and programs deserve better than being written around.
The IHSA’s all-time volleyball summary for Galva reads 216-729-2 — a .229 winning percentage over 43 seasons beginning in 1974-75. In that entire span the Wildcats have never won a district, regional or sectional championship. Not one title code appears anywhere in the record. Among every school in this coverage area, Galva is the only program with no IHSA volleyball hardware of any kind.
That is a hard number, and it is also an incomplete portrait. A .229 program in a town of roughly 2,500 people is not a story about failure; it is a story about a school that has fielded a volleyball team for four straight decades in a classification system that has rarely been kind to it, and has kept fielding one. The wins column says 216. Those matches happened. Somebody won them.
There is an unexplained gap in the record: no rows appear for 2005-06 through 2010-11. Whether Galva did not field a varsity team in those years or simply did not file results, we have not been able to determine. The most recent season on record is 2025-26, at 6-22.
The practical read for 2026: Galva plays in the Lincoln Trail Conference against Annawan, Princeville, Stark County, ROWVA/Williamsfield and United, several of which own multiple regional titles. The Wildcats’ October includes home dates against Princeville and United and a trip to Annawan. A regional win would be the first in program history — an actual, checkable milestone rather than a nice sentiment.
Who is coaching in 2026
MaxPreps lists Heather Anderson as head coach for 2026, with Brynn Schipper assisting. We flag this as single-source. The IHSA’s coach of record through 2025-26 is Krystal West, so this appears to be a coaching change we have confirmed in only one place. If you can verify it either way, we will update the page and note the correction.
What we have not been able to confirm
- The coaching change from Krystal West to Heather Anderson — one source only.
- Why the IHSA record shows no seasons between 2005-06 and 2010-11.
- The 2026 roster, which has not been posted publicly.
Send us results
Volleyball gets a fraction of the coverage football does around here, and almost none of these matches are written up anywhere. If you have a result, a stat line or a photo, send it in — we post them as they come and correct errors the same day.
