Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes Volleyball: 2026 Schedule, Results and Roster
Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes · Abingdon, Illinois
Latest result: beat Farmington 2-0 on September 3. Now 2-4. Next: at Hamilton/Warsaw, Wednesday September 9, 6:00.
2026: 2-4 · Coach: Ramona Tinkham · 2025: 6-29, tenth in the Lincoln Trail
The weakest all-time record of any programme at any school in this coverage area — at a school whose girls basketball team just won its first sectional title in history.
2026 so far
- Aug 24 — lost to Deer Creek-Mackinaw, 0-2
- Aug 27 — at Astoria/VIT — result not posted
That second result has been missing from public records for two days. If you know it, send it over and we will update.
Aug 31 — two defeats at Elmwood/Brimfield, both 0-2. The format of that evening is unconfirmed; the record only balances if both count as separate matches, so we believe it was a multi-team night.
Sept 2 — beat Havana 2-1. Sept 3 — beat Farmington 2-0 (25-23, 25-16). Two wins in two days after an 0-4 start.
The roster
Three seniors: setter Miya Alderson, outside hitter Taylor Hendel and middle Cori Anderson.
Juniors Camdyn Hull (setter) and Ella Timmons (middle) come in behind them.
Robyn Hendel assists; Jayla Sahyouni keeps statistics.

The all-time number
Since the Abingdon and Avon districts consolidated in 2013, the volleyball programme is 98-262 — a .273 winning percentage.
That is the weakest mark at any school on this site, in any sport. It is worth stating plainly, and it is worth putting next to what the same athletic department has done elsewhere.
What the same school does in other sports
Girls basketball, 2024-25: 30-4, and the first sectional championship in school history, beating Wethersfield 46-30 — a team A-Town had already beaten to take the Lincoln Trail tournament title.
They went 26-8 with a regional in 2024, and 26-6 with a 10-0 conference record and another regional in 2026.
Girls basketball is 247-138 since consolidation. Baseball is 187-99 and won its first regional since 2017 in May 2025, beating United 4-0.
So the school produces winning teams. Volleyball has simply not been one of them, and the gap between .642 in the gym in winter and .273 in the gym in autumn is the most striking thing about A-Town athletics.
Hosting the sectional
One detail worth knowing: Abingdon-Avon hosted the Class 1A volleyball sectional in 2025 — the round where ROWVA/Williamsfield’s 32-win season ended against Tremont.
A school that went 6-29 hosted the biggest volleyball weekend in the area.
The school
Abingdon-Avon enrolls 275 in a town of 2,951, fifty miles west of Peoria. The districts consolidated in 2013.
Abingdon produced two Medal of Honor recipients — Vice Admiral James Stockdale and Captain Robert Hugo Dunlap — and, in 1894, the patent application for the common spring-loaded mousetrap.
A-Town joined the Lincoln Trail Conference in 2021, moving with Knoxville from the Prairieland. More on the Tornadoes →
The postseason
State semifinals Friday, November 13, finals Saturday, November 14, at CEFCU Arena in Normal.

A consolidation that split the record in two
Abingdon-Avon’s volleyball history sits in two separate IHSA entries, and reading only one of them gives a misleading picture of the program.
The pre-consolidation Abingdon record reads 105-115-15 across seven recorded seasons, with district championships in 1974-75 and 1981-82 and three regional championships — 1984-85, 1985-86 and 1996-97, including back-to-back titles in the mid-1980s. No sectional. Only the seasons from 1996-97 through 2003-04 carry win-loss totals; the four title-winning rows have no records attached to them, which is a filing gap rather than a mystery.
The Abingdon (A.-Avon) entry, covering the consolidated school, reads 98-262-2 — a .273 percentage across 13 seasons beginning in 2013-14. It contains exactly one piece of hardware, and it came immediately: a regional championship in the program’s first season, 2013-14, by a Class 2A team that finished 21-11 under Cindy Paulus. Nothing since. No sectional, no super-sectional, no state finals.
Paulus is the through-line. She appears as head coach in both entries, bridging the consolidation, and she delivered a regional title in the first year of the merged program — then the record turns hard the other way. Twelve seasons at .273 following a 21-11 regional championship is a steep fall, and it is the central fact about where this program stands in 2026.
The most recent season on file is 2025-26: 5-31 under Ramona Tinkham.
The nine-date October is the fullest in this group, and it includes three home matches — Wethersfield on the 7th, Princeville on the 14th and Ridgewood on the 19th. The 6:00 p.m. starts across nearly the whole month are worth noting for anyone planning to attend; most Lincoln Trail schools play at 7:00.
Who is coaching in 2026
Ramona Tinkham returns as head coach. This is one of the better-documented attributions in the area: MaxPreps and the IHSA agree, and Tinkham has been the coach of record since 2024-25.
What we have not been able to confirm
- The 2026 roster, which has not been posted publicly.
- The Saturday, October 17 start time at Bushnell-Prairie City.
- Win-loss records for the four Abingdon title teams of 1974-75, 1981-82, 1984-85 and 1985-86, which the IHSA record leaves blank.
If anyone in Abingdon has those old results — a yearbook, a scrapbook, a newspaper clipping — we would like to publish them. Records that exist only in someone’s basement are the kind of thing a local site should be preserving.
Send us results
Volleyball gets a fraction of the coverage football does around here, and almost none of these matches are written up anywhere. If you have a result, a stat line or a photo, send it in — we post them as they come and correct errors the same day.
