Annawan Bravettes Girls Basketball: 2026-27 Schedule and History
Annawan Bravettes · Annawan, Illinois · Lincoln Trail Conference
2024-25: 7-20 · All-time: 808-438 (.648) · Two-time state champions
Annawan have won two Illinois state championships. No other programme in this coverage area, in any sport, has won one in the modern era. The Bravettes have two, and a third-place trophy besides, all inside five seasons.
2014 and 2017
2013-14: Class 1A state champions, 30-4.
2016-17: Class 1A state champions, 28-8.
2012-13: third in Class 1A, 30-3.
All three under Jason Burkiewicz, who coached Annawan for fourteen seasons from 2010-11 and went 341-92 — a .788 winning percentage — including a 34-1 season in 2017-18, the year after the second title.
Consider the scale of that. A village of about 800 people, a school small enough to sit in the bottom class, and a coach who won more than three-quarters of everything he played for fourteen years and twice ended the season as the best team in Illinois.
The full record
Across 51 seasons since 1974-75:
Regional titles (19): 1976-77, 1977-78, 1989-90, 1990-91, 1991-92, 1992-93, 1994-95, 2007-08, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2022-23, 2023-24.
Sectional titles (7): 1977-78, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2016-17, 2017-18.
State finals appearances (3), all with a trophy: 2012-13 third, 2013-14 champions, 2016-17 champions.
Eleven consecutive regional titles from 2007-08 to 2017-18. Six sectionals in seven years. That is not a good run, it is a dynasty by any reasonable local measure.
Where the programme is now
Harder reading. Burkiewicz’s last two seasons were 25-8 and 24-7. The first season after him was 7-20, under Brian Beach.
That is the ordinary shape of a small school after a long, exceptional tenure ends — Galesburg are managing the same transition on a larger scale and having a much easier time of it — but a seventeen-win swing in one year is steep, and it is where this programme actually stands going into 2026-27.
The IHSA has no 2025-26 row for Annawan girls at all, so we cannot tell you what happened last season from the record. That is a filing gap rather than a missing season.
We cannot tell you who is coaching
This one we are going to leave open rather than guess, because the sources contradict each other badly.
MaxPreps lists two people as head coach for 2026-27 — Matt Huber and Brian Beach. The IHSA’s most recent entry, for 2025-26, lists Matt McMeekan and Ryan Dawson. Those are four different names across two sources, with no overlap between them.
We are not going to print a head coach on the strength of that. If you know who is running Annawan girls basketball this winter, tell us and it goes up the same day with credit.
Separate from Wethersfield
Annawan and Wethersfield are a co-op in football only. In basketball and volleyball they are separate schools with separate teams — Annawan Bravettes and Wethersfield Flying Geese — and they play each other. There is no Annawan-Wethersfield girls basketball team.
2026-27 schedule
The 2026-27 schedule shows one game posted at the time of writing — the thinnest listing of any area programme. IHSA girls practice is scheduled to open Monday, November 2.
We will publish the full schedule on this page as soon as it is posted, and update results through the season.
What we are still chasing
- The head coach. Four names across two sources.
- The 2025-26 season record, which the IHSA has not filed
- The 2026-27 schedule and roster
- Where Jason Burkiewicz went, and whether either championship team’s players remain involved
How it compares to Annawan volleyball
Annawan’s two sports for girls tell different stories, and the gap between them is instructive.
Volleyball: 630-535-25 across 49 seasons, a .540 record, with five regional titles and two sectionals — the most recent sectional in 2023-24. Solid, durable, occasionally very good.
Basketball: 808-438 across 51 seasons, a .648 record, nineteen regionals, seven sectionals and two state championships.
Same school, same village, same pool of girls, roughly the same number of seasons. Basketball has won more than a hundred games more from two fewer years, and it has hardware volleyball has never come close to. Whatever Annawan built in that gym between 2010 and 2018, it did not transfer across the hallway.
Where to find results
Coverage of Lincoln Trail girls basketball is thin, and the IHSA’s own filing for Annawan currently stops at 2024-25. MaxPreps carries schedules when schools post them. There is no local outlet running an area scoreboard on winter nights.
We will post results here through the season, and we would rather have them from you than find them late.
Where Annawan Bravettes rank in the area
Across the fourteen girls basketball programmes we cover, Annawan Bravettes sit third by all-time wins (808), second by winning percentage (.648) and second by regional championships (nineteen).
The nearest programmes by wins are Wethersfield Flying Geese above (824) and Princeville Princes below (707).
Annawan Bravettes have converted seven of those nineteen regional titles into a sectional championship, losing at that stage twelve times.
The three state trophies in the cabinet are among only twelve won by area girls basketball programmes in total.
Full comparisons for every programme, plus conference structure, season dates and how the Illinois postseason works, are on our area girls basketball guide.
By the numbers

| Recorded seasons | 51 |
| Average wins per season | 15.8 |
| Average games per season | 24 |
| Regional titles | 19 |
| Share of all area regionals | 17.0% |
| Years since last regional | 2 |
2 years since the last regional puts Annawan in the middle of the area — recent enough to be remembered, long enough to matter.

All-time record, championship years and state finishes from the IHSA’s per-school record page at ihsa.org, with the school total arithmetically verified against its individual season rows — the coach subtotals sum exactly to 808-438 across 51 years, and both state championships were corroborated verbatim against the IHSA champions page.
