Stark County Rebels Boys Basketball: 2026-27 Schedule and History
Stark County Rebels · Toulon, Illinois · Lincoln Trail Conference
All-time: 361-326 (.525) · 24 recorded seasons · Record stops in 2020
Stark County boys basketball has three regional titles, a winning all-time record, and an IHSA file that ends six years ago.
Three regionals
Regional titles (3): 1993-94 (19-10, Dave Wallace), 2000-01 (18-12, Jay Melton) and 2007-08 (23-7, Jay Melton).
No sectional, no super-sectional, no state finals. The Place column is empty throughout the table.
Jay Melton won two of the three, seven years apart. The 2007-08 team’s 23-7 is the best documented season in programme history.
The record stops in 2020
Stark County’s last IHSA row is 2019-20. Six seasons are missing.
The last three on file make grim reading: 6-24, 5-22 and 6-26, all under Dustin Browning, between 2017-18 and 2019-20. Seventeen wins across three years.
There is a second flaw in the file worth naming. One coach’s subtotal — Sam Benson’s — is printed with no wins, losses or years at all, which is why a table spanning 28 seasons from 1992-93 counts only 24. So even the 361-326 is short by an unknown amount.
We cannot confirm who is coaching
MaxPreps lists two people as head coach for 2026-27 — Dustin Browning and Kane Mastin. Both carry the same tag. The IHSA’s last coach of record is Browning in 2019-20, which is six years stale and cannot settle it.
We are not going to guess. Stark County is also the school where we could not find a volleyball coach listed anywhere at all, so this is a pattern rather than a one-off.
What the predecessors won
Stark County High School was formed in the early 1990s, and the earlier schools hold their own records. Wyoming won a Class A regional in 1989-90, and Toulon (Toulon-LaFayette) won regionals in 1986-87 and 1987-88.
Those predecessor tables would not return complete totals when we read them, so we are not quoting all-time figures for them — only the titles, which are printed clearly.
How it compares to Stark County football
Football is where this school is currently strong. The Rebels are 3-0 this autumn, including a remarkable 54-51 win at United in Week 3 — a 105-point game. They are one of only two unbeaten area football teams.
Basketball has no comparable current form on record, though “on record” is doing a lot of work in that sentence given the file ends in 2020.
2026-27 schedule
Around six games are posted for 2026-27. IHSA boys practice is scheduled to open Monday, November 9.
We will publish the full schedule on this page as soon as it is posted, and update results through the season.
Finding Stark County online
Stark County, Illinois is routinely confused with Stark County, Ohio — the much larger county containing Canton, home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Illinois county has about 5,500 people in total. The high school is in Toulon, which is also how the IHSA files it, so searching the state archive for “Stark County” returns nothing. “Rebels” and “Toulon” are the terms that work.
Coverage of Lincoln Trail basketball is thin in general. MaxPreps carries schedules and scores when schools update them, which is inconsistent at this level. The IHSA’s record pages are authoritative but frequently years behind. No local outlet runs a nightly area scoreboard in winter.
We will post results on this page through the season. If you have a score before we do, send it and it goes up with credit.
What we are still chasing
- Which of the two listed head coaches leads the varsity
- Every season result since 2020 — six missing years
- Sam Benson’s coaching record, which the IHSA prints as blank
- The full 2026-27 schedule and roster
The school
Stark County Community Unit School District 100 serves the whole of Stark County — Toulon, Wyoming, LaFayette, Bradford and the surrounding countryside — from a high school in Toulon, about thirty miles east of Galesburg. It was formed in the early 1990s from the consolidation of Toulon (Toulon-LaFayette), Wyoming and Bradford.
With roughly 5,500 people in the entire county, it is among the smallest districts in the Lincoln Trail Conference and competes in Class 1A. The athletics site is stark100athletics.com, though we have not been able to read schedules or staff listings from it.
Where Stark County Rebels rank in the area
Across the fourteen boys basketball programmes we cover, Stark County Rebels sit tenth by all-time wins (361), tenth by winning percentage (.525) and eleventh by regional championships (three).
The nearest programmes by wins are Bureau Valley Storm above (445) and Monmouth-Roseville Titans below (352).
The sectional round is the wall. Stark County Rebels have won three regional titles and lost the sectional every time — three exits at the same stage, and no sectional championship in the programme’s history.
No state finals trophy. Seven area programmes have one; this is not among them.
Full comparisons for every programme, plus conference structure, season dates and how the Illinois postseason works, are on our area boys basketball guide.
By the numbers
| Games on record | 687 |
| Recorded seasons | 24 |
| Average wins per season | 15.0 |
| Average games per season | 29 |
| Regional titles | 3 |
| Share of all area regionals | 2.2% |
| Years since last regional | 18 |
18 years without a regional means nobody currently in the school has seen one won.

All-time record, championship years and state finishes from the IHSA’s per-school record page at ihsa.org, with the school total arithmetically verified against its individual season rows — the coach subtotals sum exactly to the printed 361-326 across 24 recorded years, though one blank coach block means the true total is higher.
