ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars Boys Basketball: 2026-27 Schedule and History
ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars · Oneida and Williamsfield, Illinois · Lincoln Trail Conference
Coach: Ryan Hart · ROWVA all-time: 898-863 (.510) · Williamsfield all-time: 419-323 (.565)
ROWVA finished second in the Illinois Class A state finals in 1976, losing the championship game by a single point. Williamsfield reached the Elite Eight twenty-one years later. Both records now sit frozen in the IHSA’s files, unfiled for a decade.
1975-76: one point short
ROWVA went 28-3 under Bob Meredith, won the regional, the sectional and the super-sectional, and reached the Class A state final — where they lost to Mt. Pulaski 59-58.
In that same state finals, Buda (Western) — now part of Bureau Valley — finished fourth. Two schools from this small area in the last four of the same tournament.
ROWVA’s other state trip came in 1948-49, their first recorded season, when they won a regional and a sectional and qualified for the finals.
1996-97: Williamsfield’s Elite Eight
Before the co-op, Williamsfield had a run of their own. 28-3 in 1996-97 under Robert Anderson, with a regional, a sectional and a super-sectional — and then the state quarter-final. The Place column is blank, so no trophy.
It is the only sectional title in Williamsfield history.
The two records
ROWVA — 898-863 across 68 seasons since 1948-49. Regionals: 1948-49, 1949-50, 1974-75, 1975-76, 1977-78, 1982-83. Sectionals: 1948-49, 1975-76, 1982-83. Super-sectional: 1975-76.
Williamsfield — 419-323 across 27 recorded seasons, with rows spanning 1952-53 to 2014-15. Districts: 1952-53, 1961-62, 1963-64, 1964-65, 1965-66, 1966-67. Regionals: 1963-64, 1981-82, 1984-85, 1996-97, 2006-07, 2014-15. Sectional and super-sectional: 1996-97.
There is no combined ROWVA/Williamsfield line in the IHSA’s records. If you see one quoted, it has been invented.
Both records have stopped
This is among the worst filing situations in the conference.
ROWVA’s last row is 2016-17 — 7-25 under Bob Anderson. Nine seasons are missing. The 2015-16 row is blank.
Williamsfield’s last row is 2014-15, and it is a title row with no win-loss figure. The last season carrying an actual record is 2005-06, 17-15 under Robert Anderson. Sixty-three seasons of rows produce only 27 with a record.
So neither number above is current, and between them they tell you almost nothing about the last decade of Cougars basketball.
How the co-op works
ROWVA and Williamsfield are separate school districts that field a single joint team. The co-op’s own governing handbook names it the ROWVA-Williamsfield (RW) Cougars, in gold and maroon, and specifies that ROWVA hosts both boys and girls basketball.
The Lincoln Trail Conference lists ROWVA and Williamsfield as two separate member districts, which is a membership technicality rather than a per-sport arrangement. On the floor there is one team.
The co-op covers football and volleyball too, which makes this simpler than Annawan and Wethersfield, who share a football team and nothing else.
How it compares to the school’s other sports
The football Cougars are 1-2 this autumn after a 38-30 defeat at Illini West in Week 3. Volleyball won a Class 1A regional in 2025-26 — filed by the IHSA under Williamsfield rather than ROWVA, which is how we worked out where the co-op’s results are recorded.
2026-27 schedule
The 2026-27 listing is thin, with the first posted game not until December 21. IHSA boys practice is scheduled to open Monday, November 9.
We will publish the full schedule on this page as soon as it is posted, and update results through the season.
Finding ROWVA/Williamsfield online
This team is filed under at least four different names. The IHSA lists the school as Oneida (ROVA) for seasons up to 1987-88 and Oneida (ROWVA) after that — the spelling changed mid-record. MaxPreps uses ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars. A legacy ROWVA Tigers page also still exists on MaxPreps with an empty shell of a 2026-27 season; ignore it, it is not the live team. ROWVA CUSD 208 still calls itself “Home of the Tigers” as a district while the athletic co-op competes as the Cougars.
The acronym stands for Rio, Oneida, Wataga and Altona, the four towns of the original consolidation. Coverage of Lincoln Trail basketball is thin in general. MaxPreps carries schedules and scores when schools update them, which is inconsistent at this level. The IHSA’s record pages are authoritative but frequently years behind. No local outlet runs a nightly area scoreboard in winter.
We will post results on this page through the season. If you have a score before we do, send it and it goes up with credit.

- Anyone connected to the 1975-76 state finals team
Where ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars rank in the area

By the numbers
| Games on record | 1,761 |
| Recorded seasons | 68 |
| Average wins per season | 13.2 |
| Average games per season | 26 |
| Regional titles | 6 |
| Share of all area regionals | 4.4% |
| Years since last regional | 43 |
43 years is a long time. A player starting at ROWVA this winter was not born the last time the programme won a regional, and neither were their older siblings.
