ROWVA girls basketball had one exceptional coach, two regional titles, and a record that stopped being kept a decade ago. Williamsfield has no girls basketball record with the IHSA at all.
Vinton Pease
The programme’s whole trophy haul belongs to one era. Vinton Pease went 246-100 — a .711 record — across fourteen seasons, including years of 25-1, 24-2 and 25-2.
Under him ROWVA won regional titles in 1985-86 and 1986-87, and a sectional in 1985-86. No state finals appearance followed, but a 25-1 season at a school this size is the kind of year a town remembers.
Those two regionals and one sectional are, forty-one seasons in, the entirety of the programme’s hardware.
The record shows the collapse
The last three documented seasons are hard reading: 7-21 in 2013-14, then 0-30 in 2014-15, then 2-29 in 2015-16.
A winless thirty-game season is a rare thing to find in these files. The 2016-17 row is blank, and there is nothing after it — nine seasons missing or empty, alongside earlier blanks at 1975-76 and 2010-11.
So what has happened to Cougars girls basketball since 2016 is, on the public record, entirely unknown. The co-op with Williamsfield now supplies players from both districts, which may well have changed the picture, but no source we have found reports it.
Williamsfield has no record at all
We checked this two ways, because an absence is easy to mistake for a research failure.
The IHSA’s Williamsfield page carries tables for baseball, bass fishing, boys basketball, boys golf, girls golf, girls volleyball, scholastic bowl and softball. Girls basketball would sort immediately after boys basketball, and it is simply not there. No record, no titles, no first season.
On the boys side Williamsfield’s own data ends in 2005-06. On the girls side it never began.
Two names, one team
The IHSA’s ROWVA table carries two era headings — “As Oneida (ROVA)” for 1973-74 to 1987-88, and “As Oneida (ROWVA)” from 1988-89. The spelling changed mid-record when Wataga joined the consolidation, and the Pease-era titles fall under the older spelling.
How it compares to the co-op’s volleyball
Volleyball is currently the stronger girls programme by some distance. The Cougars won a Class 1A regional in 2025-26 under Lori Secrist, and went 32-7 the season before that — the best record of any area team in any sport that year.
Neither ROWVA nor Williamsfield has a volleyball win-loss record on file with the IHSA either, incidentally. Both entries are title rows and nothing else.
2026-27 schedule
The 2026-27 listing is incomplete. IHSA girls practice is scheduled to open Monday, November 2.

Across the fourteen girls basketball programmes we cover, ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars sit eighth by all-time wins (505), tenth by winning percentage (.528) and eleventh by regional championships (two).
The nearest programmes by wins are Ridgewood (AlWood) above (511) and Bureau Valley Storm below (392).
ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars have converted one of those two regional titles into a sectional championship, losing at that stage one time.
No state finals trophy. Five area programmes have one; this is not among them.

39 years is a long time. A player starting at ROWVA this winter was not born the last time the programme won a regional, and neither were their older siblings.
One team, two districts
ROWVA and Williamsfield run a joint athletic programme. ROWVA hosts girls basketball; the team competes as the Cougars in gold and maroon. The Lincoln Trail Conference counts the two districts as separate members, which is paperwork rather than anything you would see on a court.
For the girls side this arrangement matters more than it does for the boys, because Williamsfield has never had a girls basketball record of its own. Whatever the co-op has achieved since 2009 is presumably filed under ROWVA — and since ROWVA’s file stops in 2016, it is not filed anywhere useful at all.
Searching for this team
Try “ROWVA Williamsfield Cougars” or “Oneida Illinois basketball”. The IHSA archive uses Oneida (ROVA) before 1988 and Oneida (ROWVA) after, and an obsolete ROWVA Tigers page still floats around MaxPreps with an empty 2026-27 shell. None of the four names will find you a current result, because nobody is publishing them.
What a co-op cannot fix
Combining two small districts widens the pool of players, and ROWVA/Williamsfield volleyball has clearly benefited — a 32-7 season and a regional title in the last two years. Girls basketball has no comparable evidence either way, because nothing has been filed since the co-op matured. The last documented seasons, 0-30 and 2-29, predate whatever the arrangement has since produced.
