United Red Storm Volleyball: 2026 Schedule, Results and Roster

United Red Storm · Monmouth and Alexis, Illinois

Latest result: beat Bushnell-Prairie City 2-0 on September 3. Now 3-5. Next: Augusta Southeastern at home, Tuesday September 8, 7:00.

2026: 3-5 · Coach: Courtney Young · 2025: 16-20, sixth in the Lincoln Trail

The best all-time winning percentage of any programme at any school in this coverage area, in any sport, belongs to United volleyball: 568-188, a .751 mark.

2026 so far

  • Aug 25 — lost at West Prairie, 1-2
  • Aug 27 — beat ROWVA/Williamsfield, 2-1 — the defending conference champions’ third straight defeat
  • Aug 29 — lost to Illini West 0-2, beat Rockridge 2-0 in tournament play

That win in Oneida is the best result any area team has recorded so far this season.

Sept 3 — beat Bushnell-Prairie City 2-0 on the road. Set scores not published.

Seven seniors

Courtney Young’s roster carries seven: Irelynn Marshall (outside), Kaylee Teel (libero), Callie Hall (setter), Emma Lair, Aubrey Bainter, Katie Dutton and Emma Green (right side/middle).

Callie Hall is worth knowing about beyond volleyball. She was the sophomore on the United relay team that medalled in all three sprint relays at the 2025 IHSA state track finals — second in the 4×200, third in the 4×400, fifth in the 4×100.

Cameron Anderson assists; Brea Simkins keeps statistics.

The programme

This is the deepest volleyball tradition in the area, and it runs through three coaches.

Donn Damos won 299 matches across Alexis and the consolidated United district, 193 of them as United’s head coach.

Carrie Clayton took over in 2011 and won 288 matches in eleven seasons with four regional titles — at least twenty wins in every season except the COVID-shortened 2021, thirty or more in four of them, and single-digit losses in seven.

Courtney Young has had it since 2022: 21 wins in her first year, then 23 and a regional title in 2023, losing a three-set sectional semifinal to Annawan.

Young played Division II volleyball at Quincy University after graduating from United in 2007 — the same year the programme made its deepest run, going 31-4 and losing a three-set super-sectional to Deer Creek-Mackinaw.

2025

United finished 16-20 and 6-5 in conference, sixth of twelve. The postseason ended on October 28 against Knoxville, 25-15, 20-25, 25-20 — a three-set defeat to a team it had beaten during the regular season.

The school

United sits two miles east of Monmouth and draws from Alexis, Kirkwood, Little York, North Henderson, Cameron and Gerlaw. It enrolls 294.

The school was formed in 2004 from Alexis and Monmouth Warren, and absorbed Yorkwood in 2007. In its first year of existence it won the Class 1A football state championship. It has a softball state title from 2011 and three more softball state-finals trophies.

For a school barely twenty years old, that is a substantial cabinet — and the volleyball programme’s .751 all-time mark is arguably the most impressive number in it.

The postseason

State semifinals Friday, November 13, finals Saturday, November 14, at CEFCU Arena in Normal. 2026 regional and sectional assignments are not yet published.

Nine regional titles, and one sectional

United’s volleyball record with the IHSA reflects the programme’s reputation.

Regional championships: 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2024 — nine in twenty seasons of the school’s existence.

Sectional championship: 2007-08 — one of only a handful won by any school on this site.

That 2008 sectional was the year United went to the super-sectional, and the run that preceded it started with a 31-4 season in 2007.

Donn Damos went 36-1

The IHSA coaching record fills in a detail worth having: in 2009-10, Donn Damos’s United team finished 36-1.

Damos coached from 2004 to 2010. Carrie Clayton then had it from 2010 to 2022 — twelve seasons, 288 wins, four regional titles, at least twenty wins in every season but the COVID-shortened one.

Courtney Young took over in 2022 and won a regional in her second year.

Three coaches in twenty-two years, all of them successful. That continuity is why the all-time mark sits at .751.

2025’s best night

United’s signature result last season came on October 22, sweeping Wethersfield 2-0 — the eventual regional finalists, who had opened the season 13-0 and finished 30-7.

Only two teams beat Wethersfield more than once all year. United beat them in straight sets.

The best winning percentage in the area — and where it came from

United’s IHSA record is 568-188 across 22 seasons since the school’s founding in 2004-05. That is a .751 winning percentage — the highest of any volleyball program in this coverage area, ahead of Wethersfield’s .692. The filing is current through 2025-26, which makes it one of the cleanest records we work with.

The hardware: nine regional championships — 2004-05, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2023-24 — and one sectional championship, in 2007-08. No super-sectional appearance, no state finals. The Red Storm won a regional in their first year of existence and have averaged one roughly every two and a half seasons since.

What United inherited

The consolidation lineage is worth a paragraph, because it explains where the program came from. The IHSA lists two predecessor schools:

Alexis holds 23-79 across 11 recorded seasons from 1976-77 — a .225 mark — but with three regional championships, in 2000-01, 2002-03 and 2003-04, won in the three years immediately before consolidation. All three are title-only rows with no win-loss attached, a common gap in these files. A team that won three straight regionals and then merged is an unusual way for a program to end.

Monmouth (Warren) holds 151-161 across 20 seasons from 1973-74, with regional championships in 1989-90 and 2002-03.

One discrepancy we will flag rather than smooth over: the IHSA lists only those two predecessors, while other sources describe Monmouth Yorkwood being deactivated and annexed into United in 2007. Yorkwood does not appear in the IHSA’s United lineage. We have not been able to explain that, and we are not going to assert either version.

Volleyball gets a fraction of the coverage football does around here, and almost none of these matches are written up anywhere. If you have a result, a stat line or a photo, send it in — we post them as they come and correct errors the same day.
