Galva boys basketball has won 1,281 games across roughly a century. It has never won a sectional championship, a super-sectional or a state finals appearance — and by some distance it is still the most successful sports programme at the school.
Ten regionals, and a hard ceiling
Regional titles (10): 1937-38, 1961-62, 1963-64, 1967-68, 1968-69, 1969-70, 1970-71, 1983-84, 1994-95, 2001-02.
No sectionals. No super-sectionals. No state finals. No district titles. We queried the whole table specifically for sectional, super-sectional and qualifier codes and spot-checked the late 1930s row by row. There are none.
Four consecutive regionals from 1967-68 to 1970-71 is the programme’s peak. The most recent came in 2001-02 — twenty-four years ago.
A discrepancy in the record we cannot resolve
Something in the IHSA’s own file does not add up, and we would rather flag it than paper over it.
The printed School Total reads 1,281-1,113 across 98 years. The wins and losses reconcile exactly — all 38 coach subtotals sum to 1,281 and 1,113. But the year values sum to 100, not 98. We pulled the table twice and got identical figures both times, and the rows run 1925-26 to 2024-25, which is 100 seasons.
So the record is sound and the year count is not. Treat 1,281-1,113 as reliable and “98 years” as suspect.
Where the programme is now
Volatile. 2-30 in 2022-23, then 10-21, then 22-8 in 2024-25 — a twenty-win swing across three seasons under Jake McClintic, whose three-year total is 34-59.
Twenty-two wins is the best Galva figure in years and came without a regional title. The IHSA has no 2025-26 row for Galva boys, so what happened last season is not on the public record.
Galva across three sports
This is the context that matters, and it is stark.

Boys basketball is the one programme at this school with a winning record and a meaningful trophy haul. The football Wildcats play eight-man and lost 62-22 to West Central in Week 3 this autumn.
None of that is a criticism. A village of 2,500 that has fielded teams in four sports for a century has done something most towns its size have not.
2026-27 schedule
Galva have one of the fuller boys listings in the conference — around 27 games posted, with the earliest on November 23, which is the earliest boys game we have found anywhere in the area. IHSA practice is scheduled to open Monday, November 9.

Finding Galva online
Galva is one of the few area school names that does not collide with a bigger place — a search for “Galva Wildcats” reaches the right school directly. There is a Galva in Kansas, but it is small enough not to crowd the results. The Illinois village has about 2,500 people in Henry County.
Coverage of Lincoln Trail basketball is thin in general. MaxPreps carries schedules and scores when schools update them, which is inconsistent at this level. The IHSA’s record pages are authoritative but frequently years behind. No local outlet runs a nightly area scoreboard in winter.

The school
Galva Community Unit School District 224 serves a town of roughly 2,500 in Henry County, about twenty-five miles north-east of Galesburg and ten miles west of Kewanee. It competes in Class 1A and plays eight-man football, one of three area schools to do so alongside Ridgewood and West Central.
Galva High School also hosts postseason events — it staged a girls basketball regional in February 2026, at which Bureau Valley lost the final to Newman Central Catholic.

Across the fourteen boys basketball programmes we cover, Galva Wildcats sit fifth by all-time wins (1,281), ninth by winning percentage (.535) and sixth by regional championships (ten).
The nearest programmes by wins are Princeville Princes above (1,411) and Annawan Braves below (1,245).
The sectional round is the wall. Galva Wildcats have won ten regional titles and lost the sectional every time — ten exits at the same stage, and no sectional championship in the programme’s history.
No state finals trophy. Seven area programmes have one; this is not among them.

24 years without a regional means nobody currently in the school has seen one won.
The 2001-02 regional
Galva have not won a regional since 2001-02. That team remains the last to take a title of any kind at the school in boys basketball, and with volleyball never having won one and the girls programme holding a single title from 2002-03, the early 2000s are where most of Galva sporting memory sits.
