Galva Wildcats Girls Basketball: 2026-27 Schedule and History
Galva Wildcats · Galva, Illinois · Lincoln Trail Conference
2024-25: 5-22 · All-time: 331-852 (.280) · One regional title in 49 seasons
We are going to report this record plainly, because writing around it would be worse than stating it.
Galva girls basketball has won one regional championship in forty-nine seasons. The all-time mark is 331-852 — a .280 winning percentage — and includes six seasons in which the team did not win a single game.
The one title
2002-03, a Class A regional, won by a 16-13 team under Paul Alepra. Exactly one row in the entire forty-nine-season table has anything in the Titles column, and the Place column is empty throughout.
No sectional. No super-sectional. No state finals.
The seasons without a win
1985-86: 0-23. 1986-87: 0-23. 1987-88: 0-20. 1992-93: 0-20. 1993-94: 0-20. 2003-04: 0-30.
Six winless seasons, including a thirty-game one immediately after the programme’s only regional title. Bob Flink’s two years in that stretch produced a combined 3-53.
That is a hard thing to publish about a group of teenagers, and we have thought about whether to. We are publishing it because the record is public, because it is what the IHSA prints, and because the more interesting fact sits alongside it: Galva kept fielding a team. Forty-nine consecutive seasons, through all of that.
The good stretches
They exist and deserve naming. Dale Collis went 17-7 in 1984-85. Dan Rakestraw went 17-10 in 1999-00. Paul Alepra went 31-25 across two years including the 2002-03 regional. Lee Monroe went 47-36 between 2013 and 2016.
More recently: 14-17 in 2022-23 under Dan Russell — by this programme’s standards a strong season — then 4-20 and 5-22.
Nobody is sure who is coaching
MaxPreps lists Josh Harris as head coach for 2026-27. We cannot corroborate that anywhere. The IHSA’s last entry for Galva girls is Brad Jackson in 2024-25, and there is no 2025-26 row at all — not a blank one, simply no row.
So the last coach the state record knows about is Jackson, two years ago. We know Galva High School hosted a girls regional in February 2026, but hosting does not require fielding a team, so that proves nothing either way.
If you know who is coaching Galva girls basketball this winter, tell us.
One thing the record does well
Unusually for this conference, every one of Galva’s forty-nine seasons carries an actual win-loss figure. No blank rows, no title rows missing records. The gap is at the end — nothing since 2024-25 — rather than scattered through the middle.
Compare that to West Central, where two of three regional titles are filed with no record at all. Galva’s record may be a difficult one, but it is honestly kept.
2026-27 schedule
Around 27 games are posted for 2026-27 — one of the fuller girls listings in the conference. IHSA girls practice is scheduled to open Monday, November 2.
We will publish the full schedule on this page as soon as it is posted, and update results through the season.
Finding Galva online
Galva is one of the few area school names that does not collide with a bigger place — a search for “Galva Wildcats” reaches the right school directly. There is a Galva in Kansas, but it is small enough not to crowd the results. The Illinois village has about 2,500 people in Henry County.
Coverage of Lincoln Trail basketball is thin in general. MaxPreps carries schedules and scores when schools update them, which is inconsistent at this level. The IHSA’s record pages are authoritative but frequently years behind. No local outlet runs a nightly area scoreboard in winter.
We will post results on this page through the season. If you have a score before we do, send it and it goes up with credit.
What we are still chasing
- The head coach. One unverified source against a two-year-old state record.
- Whether Galva fielded a girls team in 2025-26 at all, and what its record was

Where Galva Wildcats rank in the area
Across the fourteen girls basketball programmes we cover, Galva Wildcats sit tenth by all-time wins (331), fourteenth by winning percentage (.280) and thirteenth by regional championships (one).
The nearest programmes by wins are Bureau Valley Storm above (392) and Monmouth-Roseville Titans below (329).
The sectional round is the wall. Galva Wildcats have won one regional title and lost the sectional every time — one exit at the same stage, and no sectional championship in the programme’s history.
No state finals trophy. Five area programmes have one; this is not among them.
Full comparisons for every programme, plus conference structure, season dates and how the Illinois postseason works, are on our area girls basketball guide.
By the numbers
| Games on record | 1,183 |

| Average wins per season | 6.8 |
| Average games per season | 24 |

23 years without a regional means nobody currently in the school has seen one won.
One title, and forty-eight seasons without
Galva girls won their regional in 2002-03 and followed it immediately with an 0-30 season. No programme in this coverage area has a starker single-year reversal on record. The title and the winless year sit next to each other in the IHSA table, which is as concise a summary of this programme as anything we could write.
