United Red Storm Boys Basketball: 2026-27 Schedule and History
United Red Storm · Monmouth and Alexis, Illinois · Lincoln Trail Conference
Coach: Jason Lancaster · 2025-26: 14-15 · All-time: 250-359 (.411)
United have existed since 2004 and won one piece of IHSA hardware: a Class 1A regional championship in 2021-22, by a 27-7 team under Doug Dennison.
2021-22: the one
Twenty-seven wins and seven defeats — comfortably the best season in the programme’s twenty-two-year history, and the only one to produce a title.
There is a postscript worth knowing. Doug Dennison, who coached that team, is now the head coach at West Central, a school twenty miles west whose boys programme has never won anything at all and went 1-30 two seasons ago. He has done this before.
Beyond 2021-22: no sectional, no super-sectional, no state finals. The Class, Titles and Place columns are otherwise bare.
What United inherited
The consolidation history is longer than the school’s own.
Alexis carries 728-972 across 68 seasons, a .428 record running from 1935-36 to 2009-10, with district titles in 1935-36, 1961-62, 1964-65 and 1970-71.
Monmouth (Warren) carries 492-578 across 45 seasons, a .460 record from 1958-59 to 2003-04, with a district title in 1965-66, a district and regional double in 1966-67, and another district in 1968-69.
A caveat on both: we were not able to run our usual arithmetic check on these two tables, because the coach subtotals would not come back cleanly. Treat them as moderate confidence rather than verified.
Where the programme is now
Steady, around .500. 16-15, then 18-15, then 14-15 across the last three seasons under Jason Lancaster, who has three assistants.
For a programme with a .411 all-time mark, three consecutive near-.500 seasons represents the most sustained competitiveness in its history. United’s IHSA filing is also complete and current through 2025-26 — one of only five area boys programmes we can say that of.
How it compares to United football
Football is having a hard autumn. The Red Storm are 0-3, though the Week 3 defeat was extraordinary: Stark County 54, United 51, a 105-point game in Monmouth in which a winless team scored fifty-one and lost by three.
Basketball has been the steadier of the two sports for some years now.
2026-27 schedule
Around eight games are posted for 2026-27. IHSA boys practice is scheduled to open Monday, November 9.
We will publish the full schedule on this page as soon as it is posted, and update results through the season.
Finding United online
“United” is close to unsearchable on its own. The IHSA files this school as Monmouth (United) and MaxPreps as Monmouth United Red Storm. Searching “United basketball” returns Manchester United and a hundred other things; “Red Storm” is the term that works, though it is also St John’s University’s nickname. “United Red Storm Illinois” is the reliable phrase.
The school draws from Alexis, Monmouth, Seaton and the surrounding countryside in Warren and Mercer counties. Coverage of Lincoln Trail basketball is thin in general. MaxPreps carries schedules and scores when schools update them, which is inconsistent at this level. The IHSA’s record pages are authoritative but frequently years behind. No local outlet runs a nightly area scoreboard in winter.
We will post results on this page through the season. If you have a score before we do, send it and it goes up with credit.
What we are still chasing
- Verified all-time totals for Alexis and Monmouth (Warren)
- Whether Monmouth Yorkwood, annexed into United in 2007, has a separate basketball record — the IHSA does not list it as a predecessor
- The full 2026-27 schedule and roster
The school
United Community Unit School District 304 was formed in 2004 by consolidating Alexis and Monmouth Warren, with Monmouth Yorkwood deactivated and annexed in 2007. The high school sits north of Monmouth in Warren County, and the district also draws from Seaton, Little York and Kirkwood.
One discrepancy we will flag rather than tidy away: the IHSA lists only Alexis and Monmouth (Warren) as predecessors and does not list Yorkwood at all, despite the 2007 annexation appearing in other sources. We have not been able to explain that.
Where United Red Storm rank in the area
Across the fourteen boys basketball programmes we cover, United Red Storm sit thirteenth by all-time wins (250), thirteenth by winning percentage (.411) and thirteenth by regional championships (one).
The nearest programmes by wins are Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes above (263) and West Central Heat below (133).
The sectional round is the wall. United Red Storm have won one regional title and lost the sectional every time — one exit at the same stage, and no sectional championship in the programme’s history.
No state finals trophy. Seven area programmes have one; this is not among them.
Full comparisons for every programme, plus conference structure, season dates and how the Illinois postseason works, are on our area boys basketball guide.
By the numbers
| Games on record | 609 |
| Recorded seasons | 22 |
| Average wins per season | 11.4 |
| Average games per season | 28 |
| Regional titles | 1 |
| Share of all area regionals | 0.7% |
| Years since last regional | 4 |
4 years since the last regional puts United in the middle of the area — recent enough to be remembered, long enough to matter.
Dennison and the 2021-22 regional
Doug Dennison won United only title in 2021-22 with a 27-7 team and has since moved to West Central, the one area programme with no titles at all. It is the clearest example in this conference of how much a single coach can matter at schools of this size, and it will be worth watching how West Central respond.
