Prairieland Conference: teams and our local tie

Last updated August 16, 2026.

The Prairieland Conference is a small-school athletic league across west-central Illinois, centered on Fulton, McDonough, Mason, Schuyler and neighboring counties. Its footprint reaches the edge of Muddy River Sport’s coverage area through the Bushnell-Prairie City Spartans.

Member schools

Member and cooperative programs include Bushnell-Prairie City, Macomb, Havana, Lewistown, Rushville-Industry, Elmwood, Brimfield, Cuba, Astoria, West Prairie and Spoon River Valley, among others. Membership shifts periodically as small schools form cooperatives and realign. Abingdon-Avon and Knoxville left the Prairieland for the Lincoln Trail Conference in 2021.

Important: football works differently

This is worth stating plainly, because it trips up a lot of people.

For football, the Prairieland and Lincoln Trail conferences merged their operations in 2023. The two leagues now compete as a combined 17-team Lincoln Trail-Prairieland football league, split into Large and Small divisions by IHSA enrollment. Schools still compete as Prairieland members in every other sport.

So if you are looking for football standings involving a Prairieland school, you want Lincoln Trail-Prairieland Large or Small — not the Prairieland Conference as a standalone football league.

Several Prairieland schools appear regularly on the schedules of the programs we cover: Macomb, Havana, Rushville-Industry, Elmwood/Brimfield, Astoria/VIT and Lewistown/Cuba/Spoon River Valley all play Knoxville, United, Abingdon-Avon or ROWVA/Williamsfield in 2026.

2025 Lincoln Trail-Prairieland Large division

Final standings: Farmington (7-0, 11-1), Macomb (6-1, 9-2), Knoxville (4-3, 5-5), Hamilton/Warsaw (4-3, 6-4), Illini West (3-4, 5-5), Elmwood/Brimfield (3-4, 3-6), Bureau Valley (1-6, 1-8), Lewistown/Cuba/Spoon River Valley (0-7, 0-9).

Our local tie: Bushnell-Prairie City

Bushnell-Prairie City is the Prairieland program closest to our coverage area. The Spartans compete across the conference calendar, and Muddy River Sport follows them through the season. B-PC also appears on West Central’s eight-man football schedule, visiting Biggsville on September 25.
