Bureau Valley Storm Girls Basketball: 2026-27 Schedule and History
Bureau Valley Storm · Manlius, Illinois · Lincoln Trail Conference
Coach: Jon Henegar · 2025-26: 23-10 · All-time: 392-469 (.455)
Bureau Valley girls had their best season in twenty-eight years last winter and lost the regional final. 23-10 under Jon Henegar, three wins into the postseason, and beaten 66-41 by Newman Central Catholic on a neutral floor at Galva on February 20.
2025-26 in detail
The run: past Morrison in the regional opener on February 14, past Polo 67-48 in the semi-final on February 18, then the final against Newman, who won their first regional title since 2009 by beating the Storm.
We are being specific about this because the IHSA record shows no title code against Bureau Valley’s 2025-26 season, and on other pages we have warned that a missing code is often just a filing gap. Here it is not. Two independent sources confirm the regional-final defeat, and Bureau Valley do not appear in the IHSA’s 2025-26 title tables at all. The Storm genuinely did not win it.
Twenty-three wins is still the programme’s best since 1997-98.
The full record
Regional titles (5): 1996-97, 1997-98, 2001-02, 2009-10, 2014-15.
Sectional titles: none. State finals: none.
Across 31 seasons since 1995-96, Bureau Valley girls have reached the sectional round five times and lost it five times. The all-time mark of 392-469 is a losing record — one of only three among area girls programmes.
A record book that actually works
Worth noting, because it is unusual in this conference: the Bureau Valley girls filing is complete and current through 2025-26, with a win-loss figure in every row and no blank title rows.
That is in sharp contrast to the boys programme at the same school, whose record has not carried a real win-loss figure since 2012-13, and to the school’s volleyball record, which stops in 2018-19. Somebody has been filing the girls basketball results and not the others.
Where the programme is now
Rising. 14-16, then 12-20, then 23-10. Henegar took over for the 2024-25 season and improved by eleven wins in his second year.
The obvious target is the sectional round, which this programme has never once won. Reaching a regional final in 2026 was the closest it has been in a decade.
How it compares to Bureau Valley volleyball
Volleyball is the stronger girls programme historically — 338-194 on the record, a .634 mark, with eight regional titles, two sectionals and a 2005-06 team that won a super-sectional and reached the Class A state finals at 32-5 under Vicki Litherland.
Basketball has five regionals, no sectionals and a losing all-time record. But volleyball’s file stopped in 2019 and basketball’s is current, so the comparison is between a well-documented present and a well-documented past.
2026-27 schedule
Around eleven games are posted for 2026-27 so far. IHSA girls practice is scheduled to open Monday, November 2.
We will publish the full schedule on this page as soon as it is posted, and update results through the season.
The school
Bureau Valley CUSD 340 was formed in 1995 by consolidating Buda (Western), Manlius, Sheffield, Walnut and Wyanet, in Bureau County, roughly fifty miles north-east of Galesburg. The high school sits in Manlius — the town the IHSA files the records under, which is why searching “Bureau Valley” in the IHSA archive finds nothing.
What we are still chasing
- The 2026-27 roster and full schedule
- March 2027 state series dates and assignments
- Whether the 2025-26 side returns its main scorers
Finding Bureau Valley online
The IHSA files this programme under “Manlius”, not “Bureau Valley”, so searching the state archive for the school name returns nothing at all. The district also shares its name with Bureau County and with the village of Bureau, and there is an unrelated Bureau Valley in other listings. Adding “Storm” or “Manlius” is what finds the right team.
The five predecessor schools — Buda, Manlius, Sheffield, Walnut and Wyanet — each hold separate records for the years before 1995, so nothing before that consolidation appears under the current name. Coverage of Lincoln Trail basketball is thin in general. MaxPreps carries schedules and scores when schools update them, which is inconsistent at this level. The IHSA’s record pages are authoritative but frequently years behind. No local outlet runs a nightly area scoreboard in winter.
We will post results on this page through the season. If you have a score before we do, send it and it goes up with credit.
Where Bureau Valley Storm rank in the area
Across the fourteen girls basketball programmes we cover, Bureau Valley Storm sit ninth by all-time wins (392), twelfth by winning percentage (.455) and eighth by regional championships (five).
The nearest programmes by wins are ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars above (505) and Galva Wildcats below (331).
The sectional round is the wall. Bureau Valley Storm have won five regional titles and lost the sectional every time — five exits at the same stage, and no sectional championship in the programme’s history.
No state finals trophy. Five area programmes have one; this is not among them.
Full comparisons for every programme, plus conference structure, season dates and how the Illinois postseason works, are on our area girls basketball guide.
