High school volleyball in the Galesburg area

Volleyball is one of the marquee fall sports across the Galesburg, Monmouth and Knox County area. Under IHSA scheduling, girls volleyball is played in the fall and boys volleyball in the spring, with strong programs at schools large and small.

How the season works

The girls season runs from late summer through October, building to the IHSA regional, sectional and state series in the fall. Matches are best-of-three sets, and conference races often come down to the final week.

The local teams

The Galesburg Silver Streaks lead the way in the Western Big 6 Conference, while Lincoln Trail Conference programs — Knoxville, ROWVA, United, West Central and Abingdon-Avon — and Monmouth-Roseville in the West Central Conference round out the area. On the college side, Knox and Monmouth compete in the NCAA Division III Midwest Conference.
