Bureau Valley take third at Rock Falls
The busiest week of anyone in the area. The Storm lost at home to Morrison on Tuesday, won at Amboy on Thursday, then went to the Rock Falls Invitational on Saturday and finished third.
Their day: a 1-2 defeat to LaSalle-Peru, a pool win over Princeton, a 2-1 win over Newman Central Catholic, a 1-2 loss to Riverdale, and then a win over Newman again in the third-place match. The score of that final match was not reported.
Bureau Valley are 5-4, which by the standards of a programme whose IHSA record stopped being filed in 2019 is a genuinely encouraging start.
Abingdon-Avon found something
The Tornadoes opened the season 0-4. This week they beat Havana 2-1 on Wednesday and Farmington 2-0 on Thursday, taking the Farmington match 25-23, 25-16.
Two wins in two days for a programme that went 5-31 last season is the sort of thing worth noting early rather than at the end of the year.
Wethersfield, and the only box score in the area
The Flying Geese lost to Newman Central Catholic on Monday, taking the opening set 25-14 before Newman won the next two 25-22 and 25-18. On Wednesday they beat Henry-Senachwine 25-22, 25-14. They are 6-3.
Wethersfield are also the only area programme whose individual statistics anyone published this week, thanks to the Kewanee Voice. From the Newman match:
- Olivia Shipley — 21 assists, 11 digs, 2 aces
- Jordan Nelson — 10 kills, 2 blocks
- Kyleigh Anderson — 9 kills, 5 digs, 1 block, 1 ace
- Tinsley Newman — 3 kills, 6 digs, 1 ace
- Natalia Martinez — 3 blocks
- Finlee Sturtevant — 2 aces
No other area programme had a single individual statistic published anywhere this week — not by MaxPreps, not by the Register-Mail, not by WGIL or WMOI. If your daughter had twenty digs on Tuesday, nobody wrote it down. Send us the numbers and we will.

Why we are not printing conference standings
We would like to. They do not exist in any readable form.
The Lincoln Trail Conference publishes volleyball standings through embedded spreadsheets that do not load. MaxPreps’ conference page still shows last season’s final table, stamped August 10 — and that table contains Knoxville at 15-20-1 and Annawan at 10-20-1, records with ties in them, which is impossible in a sport that does not have ties. The IHSA’s standings page returns nothing at all.
On top of that, individual team pages contradict each other: four different schools are currently listed as sitting “third” in the conference at 0-0, and two separate schools are listed “first”.
Only one conference match involving an area school appears to have been played all week, so there is very little to stand up regardless. We will publish standings when there is something real to publish.
A data warning worth having
We have written before about MaxPreps showing “26-27” where a win-loss record should be. We now know exactly what is happening, and it is worse than a display glitch.
On these team pages the field labelled “Overall Record” prints the season label — 26-27 — while the field labelled “Conference Record” actually contains the team’s true overall record. The two are swapped. We confirmed it arithmetically on eight area schools: Princeville’s “conference 2-7” matches their nine played matches exactly, and they have played no conference matches at all.
So if you have looked up an area team this season and come away thinking they were 26-27, they were not. Nobody is 26-27.

What we could not confirm
- ROWVA/Williamsfield vs Peoria Heights, September 1. Listed but flagged “missing score”, and absent from both teams’ records. It may not have been played.
- West Central at Galesburg Christian, September 1. Galesburg Christian does not appear in any results database we can reach.
- Stark County vs Pekin, September 4. On Pekin’s schedule, not on Stark County’s, no result from either.
- Galesburg’s set scores from the Moline match. The published numbers imply a Galesburg win, which contradicts the confirmed 2-1 Moline result. The outcome is solid; the set scores are not.
Send us results
Scores, set scores, statistics, corrections, photographs — send them and they go up with credit. This roundup will run every week through the end of the season. We correct errors the same day we learn about them.
Results verified against MaxPreps schedule tabs and scores-by-date pages, illprepvb.com, the Kewanee Voice and individual school athletics calendars, retrieved September 6, 2026. Where a local report conflicted with the schedule data — including one instance of junior varsity scores printed as varsity — we have used the reconciled figures and said so. No result has been inferred from a team’s record.
