Galesburg-area high school cross country

Cross country runs each fall across the Galesburg, Monmouth and Knox County area, from early-season invitationals to the IHSA state series.

How the season works

Runners compete in invitationals and conference meets through September and October before the IHSA regional, sectional and state finals. The state meet is contested at Detweiller Park in nearby Peoria, one of the sport’s most storied courses.

The local teams

The Galesburg Silver Streaks lead the area in the Western Big 6 Conference, with Lincoln Trail Conference schools — Knoxville, ROWVA, United, West Central and Abingdon-Avon — and Monmouth-Roseville rounding out the local field. Muddy River Sport covers every area program.
